Cadets suffer a Hart attack in loss

ALVARADO — Alvarado racked up 352 yards on the ground Friday night as the Indians defeated Waco Connally 38-21 on homecoming at Charles Head Stadium.

The charge was led by junior Broam Hart who exploded for 287 rushing yards on only 19 carries.

The Indians jumped out to an early lead thanks to a 15-yard scoring strike from Thomas Head to Jacob Brown.

They pushed their lead to two touchdowns on Connally’s next possession as the Cadets bobbled the snap on a punt attempt and the Indians recovered at the Cadets’ 15-yard line.

On the ensuing play, Head handed the ball to Trent Ingram on an end around and the senior receiver raced virtually untouched into the end zone.

The Cadets tried to make a game of it as Reggie Richardson ran for 50 yards on the next drive and Isaiah Thompson punched it in from the 1 yard line to bring the Cadets within a touchdown, but they would never get any closer.

The rest of the night belonged to Hart, as he scored the next three touchdowns of the game on runs of 33, 64 and 29 yards to bring the Indians to a 35-7 lead. He also had a 30-yard score called back due to holding penalty.

Rydge West kicked a 32 yard field goal in the fourth to close out the scoring for the Indians.

Connally added two more late scores on runs from Torrance Williams and Thompson to bring the final to 38-21.

Alvarado’s defense held the Cadets to less than 300 yards and forced three turnovers, including an interception by Tristian Fuentes in the end zone that stopped a second half Connally scoring drive.

Alvarado improved its record to 3-2 on the season with all three victories coming against teams from the Waco area — Midway, Robinson and Connally. The Indians will open district play next week at Kaufman.
