BURLESON — The Burleson Lady Elks swept Cleburne 25-13, 25-17, 25-12 on Tuesday night at Burleson High School.
After the Lady Jackets (2-10) earned their first two wins of the season over the weekend in a tournament at Justin Northwest, Cleburne head coach Floyd Rogers said the Lady Jackets didn’t play with the intensity needed to win.
“I never look at it as a step back,” Rogers said. “I look at it as a learning experience.”
With District 16-4A play set to begin Sept. 12 at Waco University, Rogers said there are several things Cleburne needed to improve upon to be in a position to challenge for a playoff spot.
“Burleson played well,” Rogers said. “Burleson deserved that match. We didn’t deserve that match. We’re not pulling together. We’re not trusting each other and we’re not playing with any fire. There’s no determination. That’s what happens when you don’t do that.”
Burleson improved to 14-5 on the season with the victory.
After Cleburne lost the first game, Rogers moved Lacy Stinebaugh, the team’s primary setter, to libero in place of Shelby Contreras.
Contreras moved back to libero for the third game.
He said the change was made to alter the lineup and see if that would make a difference,
“She is one of our better passers,” Rogers said of Stinebaugh. “I needed to change something up because they weren’t doing what we needed. But we’re going to get better.”
Becca Anderson led the Lady Jackets with four kills. Contreras and Kiley Beard had 12 digs each.
Anderson and Tedi Schmidt finished with a pair of blocks.
