The Cleburne Lady Jackets defeated Keller Fossil Ridge, 13-3, in six innings in the Lady Jackets’ home opener on Tuesday.
Cleburne (2-0) jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after the first inning, and the Lady Jackets added 5 runs in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Cleburne put up 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn a run-rule win.
“It really was a team effort,” Cleburne Coach Kala Winn said.
Through two games, the Lady Jackets have shown a knack for being aggressive on the base path. In their season opener, Cleburne was 12-for-12 in stolen base attempts, and despite being out-hit 13-12 against Fossil Ridge, the Lady Jackets were able to move players on the base path and manufacture runs.
Jacquelyn Torres led the Lady Jackets at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, two RBIs and five stolen bases.
Cailyn Fenn was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
The Lady Jackets didn’t strike out a single time in the game, and Winn said that was encouraging to see.
Cleburne is in action in the Brewer Varsity Tournament this weekend. The Lady Jackets play Grand Prairie at 10 a.m. Thursday and Graham at 4 p.m. Thursday. On Friday, Cleburne plays Azle at 10 a.m., Fossil Ridge at 2 p.m. and Berkner at 4 p.m. Cleburne then faces Arlington Bowie at 9 a.m. Saturday.
