GODLEY — The Godley Wildcats kicked off the Randy Brawner era by shutting out Hillsboro, 42-0, on Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.
Godley (1-0) dominated on both sides of the ball by piling up 399 total yards of offense, and limited the Eagles to 109 yards on the ground, and didn’t allow a single passing yard.
Hillsboro (0-1) managed just four first downs in the contest to the Wildcats’ 17.
Senior quarterback Riley Good tossed four touchdown passes in the rout, while Landry Martinez was on the receiving end of one, and ran for two more.
Good started the offensive blitz with a 35-yard run to make it 7-0 in the first quarter and added a 3-yard touchdown toss to Jacob Ramirez to make it 14-0 at the end of the opening period.
In the second quarter, Martinez extended the Wildcat lead to three scores with an 8-yard scoring scamper.
After leading, 21-0, at halftime, Godley went right back to work as Martinez scored on a 17-yard touchdown run to extend the advantage to 28-0.
Good found Ramirez again later in the quarter with a 34-yard scoring strike to make it 35-0.
In the final period, Good found Martinez from 15 yards out to round out the scoring.
The game featured plenty of jitters as the teams put the ball on the ground a total of nine times.
Godley fumbled three times and failed to retain possession on any of them, while the Eagles coughed it up six times, and lost three.
Martinez finished with 108 yards rushing on 18 carries and two scores.
Good averaged 10 yards a carry with 90 yards on nine attempts, including a touchdown.
Good finished 8-for-12 for 147 yards and four touchdowns while Ty Young caught two passes for 72 yards in the winning effort.
Ramirez gained a total of 42 yards on three Good passes and Martinez caught three passes for 33 yards.
Chris Green for Hillsboro rushed for 121 yards on 11 carries for the Eagles.
