Jackets set to host Spartans

CLEBURNE — After a week away from home, the Cleburne Yellow Jackets return to Yellow Jacket Field to host Burleson Centennial at 7 p.m. today.

The Jackets will look to keep their undefeated record (10-0) in District 8-4A play intact while the Spartans will be aiming to put a blemish on that perfect mark for the second year in a row. Last year, Centennial defeated Cleburne in the two teams’ second matchup. It was the only loss in district play for the Jackets.

Cleburne beat Centennial, 8-0, in their first meeting this year on March 21. Dylan Schneider and Jacob Martin led the way at the plate.

The Jackets are coming off a 2-0 victory over Burleson while the Spartans defeated Joshua, 7-5, on Friday.

Cleburne leads Crowley (8-2) for first place in district standings by two games, while the Spartans trail the Eagles by two games and lead Burleson by one game for third place.

The Spartans are 1-2 in their past three games with those two losses coming against Crowley and Waco University by identical 2-0 scores.

Through 10 games in district play, Cleburne averages 7 runs per game and surrenders 1.5 runs per game. Centennial scores 5.1 runs per game and allows 4.1 runs per game in league play.

Cleburne heads to Crowley on Thursday while Centennial hosts Everman.
