CSA gearing up for spring season

CLEBURNE — Cleburne Soccer Association held an open complex to scrimmage over the weekend as the league prepares for the spring season, which is scheduled to begin Saturday.

CSA had a successful fall season, and they hope to repeat that success in the spring with more than 750 kids registered for recreational, academy and competitive soccer teams this season.

“After going several seasons of dropping numbers, we are up around 150 players over last season,” CSA’s Kenny Haferkamp said. “We have over 100 coaches registered this season assigned to 60 teams.”

Recreational teams typically play 10 league games in the fall and 10 league games in the spring. CSA registers all Johnson County players, except Burleson ISD, ages 3 to 18, for the CSA youth leagues, and most of the teams play in the Metroplex Soccer Alliance with Burleson, Crowley, Glen Rose, Granbury, Mineral Wells, Stephenville and Weatherford. CSA’s U14 and above teams can play in the Arlington soccer leagues as well.

CSA’s competitive teams compete throughout North Texas and other places across the country.

The new season begins Saturday at the Cleburne Sports Complex, and CSA’s Greg Weinschenk urges Cleburne to come out and support the youth leagues in town.
