Johnson County hoops round-up

JOHNSON COUNTY — Godley basketball went 2-0 against Keene on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats recorded a 58-23 win over the Chargers as Drew Benge led Godley with 20 points while Trace Brown added 13 points.

Leanna James, Lyndsie James and Maelan Brown each scored 14 points apiece to lead the Lady Cats to a 52-32 win over the Lady Chargers.

Leanna James added five assists and three steals while Brown had four assists, five steals and eight rebounds.

The Burleson Lady Elks recorded a 43-33 win over Everman on Tuesday night.

Mackenzie Hailey led Burleson with a game-high 20 points.

Meagan Benson’s 18 points led the Centennial  Lady Spartans to a 55-48 win over Crowley on Tuesday night.

The Joshua Owls fell to Waco University, 76-29.

    For some students, summer kicked off with athletic camps at Cleburne High School this week. The Yellow Jacket football camp and Lady Jacket basketball camp wrapped up on Thursday, and both coaches said it was a good experience for all involved.

    A trio of Cleburne Yellow Jackets have competed with and against some of the state’s premier talent at two of the biggest football camps around. Tevin Boone, Kameron Pickett and Reggie Robinson participated in the Texas A&M and University of Texas football camps over the past two weekends, and the trio will be taking part in the Texas Tech football camp today.
