EVERMAN — The Everman Lady Bulldogs claimed a 58-47 win over Cleburne on Friday night in District 9-5A action.

The Lady Jackets dropped to 1-2 in league play while Everman improved to 2-1.

After Cleburne trailed by as many as 13 points in the third quarter, the Lady Jackets put together a 14-4 run to pull to within a three-point deficit at 43-40 early in the fourth quarter.

But Everman responded with a 7-0 run to reclaim a double-digit lead at 50-40 with 3:15 remaining, and the Lady Jackets couldn't overcome the deficit down the stretch as Everman made 9-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter to close it out.

Cleburne started the game strong with an early 7-3 lead and the Lady Jackets held a 14-13 advantage after the opening quarter. But Cleburne went through a devastating scoring drought as Everman turned a one-point deficit into an 11-point lead thanks to a 14-0 run from late in the first quarter to 1:37 left in the second quarter.

Cleburne went nearly 7 minutes of game play without scoring a single point. The Lady Jackets' first points in the second quarter came on a pair of Maggie Marshall free throws with 1:37 left until halftime. Chloe Scott went 3-of-4 at the foul line in the final 1:09 of the second quarter as Cleburne scored only five points, and Everman took a 30-19 lead into the half.

Neither team was able to consistently put the ball through the hoop as Everman shot 34 percent while Cleburne made 31 percent of its shots, but the Lady Jackets' struggles with turnovers continued as they were negative-13 in the turnover department. Cleburne committed 27 turnovers, including seven in the fourth quarter.

Scott and Jayla Johnson led Cleburne with 14 points each and they both had double-doubles as Scott had 12 rebounds while Johnson had 10 rebounds. Wendyl'lyn Moblin had 10 rebounds for Cleburne as well while Abbi Marion added eight points.

Cleburne is scheduled to host Burleson Centennial at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
