Godley improves to 9-0 in blowout road win

The phrase of the night was “mission accomplished” for the Godley Wildcats.

Part of a mission, that is.

Godley’s 47-14 win over struggling Dallas Life assured the Wildcats of the Disrict 15-2A title, which was a preseason goal the Wildcats set before the season’s start.

Another goal the Wildcats (9-0, 4-0) set before the first snap was to run the table through the regular season.

They’ll get a chance to fulfill that challenge on Friday at home against winless Palmer.

As for Friday night, the Wildcats continued to churn out huge numbers on the ground and running back Landry Martinez led the way in that department with 325 yards on 21 carries, averaging an amazing 15 yards per carry.

Martinez had touchdown runs of one, 70 and 45 yards in the blowout victory as the Wildcats took a 13-0 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 26-7 at halftime after Ty Young caught a 38 yard touchdown pass from Good.

Good finished 3-of-6 on the night for 63 yards, and rushed seven times for 95 yards including a 50-yard touchdown sprint.

His numbers through the air were lower than his season average, but it didn’t matter for Godley.

Dallas Life’s only score of the first half came by way of a Teverick Boyd seven-yard run, and the Lions scored their second touchdown in the fourth quarter when Carvin Thompson ran it in from 12 yards out.

The Lions offense put up 368 yards of offense, with 196 of those coming on the ground on 33 carries, while quarterback Malcolm Trail went 13-of-24 for 129 yards.

Trail was picked off once by the Godley defense.

Martinez scored his third touchdown in the third quarter before Kolby Brown got in on the act and took it in from 25 yards out to make it 40-7, Wildcats.

Brown made his presence felt on the special teams side of the ball by returning a punt 40 yard for a touchdown to make it 47-7.

John Morrison led all Dallas Life receivers with 10 catches for 76 yarrds while Roderick Lancaster had four catches for 49 yards.

Boyd rushed 11 times for 64 yards and Trail gained 60 yards on seven carries for the Lions.

The game was played at Yellow Jacket Stadium at Ferris High School.

Dallas Life will close out the season on Friday on the road against Rio Vista (1-8, 1-3).
