Lady Jackets fall to Aledo on the road

By Matt Tasler/sports@trcle.com

ALEDO — The Cleburne Lady Jackets entered Friday night’s match against former District 8-4A rival Aledo on a bit of a high note after extending Stephenville to five games before falling on Tuesday night.

The Lady Jackets were unable to contain Aledo’s balanced offense, however, in a 25-12, 25-13, 25-10 loss to Aledo at Aledo High School.

Cleburne (5-15) hosts Northwest at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the final nondistrict match of the season.

District 16-4A play begins Friday, as the Lady Jackets travel to Waco University.

“We’ve got to play harder and focus more,” Cleburne head coach Floyd Rogers said. “We’re just going to have to go back and work harder. That’s all we can do.”

Cleburne never held a lead against the Ladycats (17-6) and were tied only once, at 1-1 in the opening game when an Aledo serve sailed out of bounds.

Aledo stretched the lead to 10-3 before Cleburne battled back to make it 13-8 on a Becca Anderson kill off an assist by Lacy Stinebaugh.

Cleburne cut it to four at 13-9 when Aledo hit the ball out of bounds, but the Ladycats recovered to score 12 of the last 15 points to claim Game 1.

Aledo used a 10-0 run in Game 2 to turn a 9-8 lead into an 11-point cushion on the way to a 25-13 win.

The Ladycats started fast in the final game, jumping out to an 8-0 lead before Anderson and Morgan Brown combined on a block for the Lady Jackets’ first point of the game.

After Tedi Schmidt blocked a kill attempt to close the gap to 16-5, Aledo scored two straight points to take a 13 point lead.

The Ladycats wound up scoring two of the last three points of the match to claim Game 3 25-10.

Anderson, Brown and Kiley Beard each had four kills for the Lady Jackets.

Shelby Contreras had eight digs to lead the defensive effort, while Sarah Rosser dished out four assists.

Stinebaugh finished with three assists on the night.

The Lady Jackets’ junior varsity team lost to Aledo 25-18, 25-11.

The freshmen fell 25-7, 25-8.
