The Grandview Zebras forced a deciding game in their best-of-three series Saturday against Peaster after winning Game 2 8-6, but the Greyhounds rallied late in Game 3 for a 9-7 victory at Boswell High School to end Grandview’s season.
Peaster won Game 1 of the series 9-8 on Thursday despite several Zebras coming up with solid efforts.
Reid Golson and Ruston Harris each hit home runs and Zac Torres had a triple for Grandview (23-7).
Stuart Good hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run; Roddy Looper had an RBI triple; Randall Van Zandt had a two-run single and Jace Lantroop had a single.
Looper got the start for the Zebras and pitched 5 2/3 innings. Lantroop go the final out of the sixth.
In Game 2, the Zebras evened the series at 1-1 with an 8-6 victory in the first game Saturday.
Van Zandt, who was playing despite suffering a separated shoulder recently, had a bases loaded triple, while Golson, Torres and Harris had two hits each.
Van Zandt also threw out a Peaster baserunner attempting to steal.
Harris got the start on the mound and pitched 4 2/3 innings. Lantroop pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to get the win.
The Greyhounds claimed victory in a back-and-forth Game 3. Peaster scored five runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-1 lead, but Grandview answered with four runs in the bottom half to make it 6-5.
The Zebras took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Peaster scored three runs in the top of the seventh to advance.
Golson had a hit, Torres had two hits and an RBI, Harris had two hits, Looper had an RBI and Good had two RBI singles.
Lantroop doubled, Van Zandt had a sacrifice, Brodie Proctor singled and Philip Chavez drove in a run with a single.
Proctor started on the hill for Grandview, pitching three innings. Good and Lantroop each pitched two innings to finish the game.
