Burleson boys win, Joshua teams fall in district hoops action

Jon Rutkowski had 25 points and eight rebounds as the Elks scored a 75-68 victory over Haltom in District 3-5A action at Burleson High School on Tuesday night.
Burleson outscored the Buffaloes 48-32 in the paint and had 16 bench points.
After three quarters, the Elks led 46-43 before both teams combined for 54 points in the final period.
Ryan Marsh had 17 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for Burleson and the duo of Ethan Ford and Rico Leggett each had six.
Cameron Anderson, Joel Rodgers and Blake Dunson all had five points, Kaleb Cantrell netted four and Mitchell Lott had two.
Legacy 75, Joshua 42
The Joshua Owls fell to 0-2 in District 8-4A on Tuesday with a loss to Legacy.
The Broncos improved to 14-6 overall and 2-0 in district, while the Owls dropped to 5-11.
Jake Martin, Toby Morris and Jesse Williamson all reached double figures for Joshua, with Martin pitching in 11 points and Morris and Williamson each netting 10.
Clint Casillas had seven points and Jody Land had four.
Palmer 67, Grandview 66
The Grandview Zebras were edged by the Palmer Bulldogs in a District 15-2A matchup on Tuesday night.
The Zebras trailed after the first period 18-16, but rallied to outscore Palmer 23-17 in the second quarter to take a 39-35 lead.
In the final period, Grandview was held to 10 points and the Bulldogs put up 17 to complete the comeback.
GIRLS
Haltom 60, Burleson 32
The Burleson Lady Elks fell to 2-2 in District 3-5A play with a loss at home to the Haltom Lady Buffaloes on Tuesday night.
Haltom jumped out to a 22-2 first quarter lead and led 36-8 at halftime en route to the district win.
The victory keeps the Lady Buffaloes undefeated in district at 3-0 and moves them to 19-3 on the year. Burleson fell to 17-7.
Lauren Waggoner led the Lady Elks with 11 points and Erin Harman pitched in seven.
Tori Jones had four, Micki Bailey and Chelsie Milam each had three, and the duo of Lauren Hatley and DaeShauwna Jones each netted two points.
Legacy 58, Joshua 50
The Joshua Lady Owls fell to Legacy on Tuesday night at home in a District 8-4A matchup.
The Lady Owls led 19-17 at halftime, but were outscored 26-12 in the third quarter.
The loss dropped Joshua to 8-14 and 0-4 in district.
Legacy improved to 2-2 in 8-4A and 19-4 overall.
Katlyn Mary led the way for the Lady Owls with 20 points and Brady Sanders had 14.
Haleigh Morris had five, Haley Peveto contributed four, Jordan Wennermark netted three and Jordan Neal and Ki Ghanem each had two points.
