The Cleburne Lady Jackets closed out the non-district portion of their schedule with a victory over Fort Worth Arlington Heights on Tuesday night.

Cleburne swept Arlington Heights, 25-16, 25-15 and 26-24, to improve to 8-6 on the season entering District 9-5A play. It was Cleburne's third consecutive victory after previously sweeping Haltom on Friday and Dallas Kimball on Aug. 29.

In each of the first two sets, Arlington Heights kept things close midway through the game before a big Cleburne run lifted the Lady Jackets to victory.

In the first game, Cleburne held a 13-11 lead before going on an 8-1 run to take a commanding 21-12 advantage. Cleburne senior and University of West Florida commit Sadie Hough had a strong start with five blocks and four kills in the opening game.

In the second set, Arlington Heights jumped out to a 7-3 lead before Cleburne responded with a 8-1 run to take a 12-8 advantage. With Cleburne sitting ahead 15-12, the Lady Jackets again took control of the set with a strong 7-1 run to build another 21-12 lead. Cleburne junior Morgan Price closed out the set with a nice kill for a 2-0 lead.

With Cleburne holding a 13-8 lead in the third set, Arlington Heights went on a 12-4 run to go ahead 20-17. Cleburne rallied with three straight points behind junior Abby Jones’ serving to tie it. But Arlington Heights scored three straight of its own to take a 23-20 lead.

Rather than letting Arlington Heights extend the match to a fourth set, Cleburne scored three straight to tie it at 23-all. However, Arlington Heights had a set-point after a hitting error by Cleburne for a 24-23 advantage. But thanks to an Arlington Heights serving error and hitting error, Cleburne closed the set, and match, on a 3-0 run for the 26-24 win.

Hough finished with 10 kills and six blocks while Jones had 10 kills, nine assists and three blocks. Allison Coleman had 13 assists and Abbi Marion pitched in five kills.

Cleburne tips off District 9-5A play at 5:30 p.m. Friday when it hosts rival Joshua.
