Billed as a “fun-draising walk,” the Buffalo Creek Waddle adds another activity to Cleburne’s Springfest and Ducky Derby events, all of which take place Saturday.
The Waddle begins at 9 a.m. and the route stretches a little more than a mile along the West Buffalo Creek Trail from the Wilson Street bridge to Hulen Park’s duck-pond dam.
The walk brings added fun in the form of a scavenger hunt, said Donna Jackson, Cleburne development services director. The first 50 people to solve various clues along the path receive a goody bag, she said.
“Springfest and the Ducky Derby have always been separate events,” Jackson said. “We’re hoping the Waddle will coordinate and tie the two events together.
“It should also be fun and expose people to the walking trails along Buffalo Creek. The Buffalo Creek Association has done so much good work there, but a lot of people still don’t know what all is there.”
Entry fees from the Waddle will be used as matching funds for a Texas Preservation Trust Fund grant to repair the dams in Buffalo Creek, said Julie Winchell, Cleburne environmental coordinator.
The dams, built in 1937, hold the duck pond in Hulen Park and are in dire need of repair, she said.
Early registration tickets for the Buffalo Creek Waddle cost $7 and are available at Renaissance Christian Store, the Layland Museum, the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce and the Cleburne Public Library. Tickets purchased at the event cost $10.
