The Cleburne Yellow Jacket soccer team is 6-3-1 after a second-place finish at the Stephenville Tournament on Saturday.
The Jackets played three games on Saturday and defeated Waco High, 2-0, in the final pool play game before defeating Azle, 2-1, in the semifinals. Jaziel Lucio scored the first goal on a corner kick and Edgar Charro put in the second goal off a header.
In the tournament finals, the Jackets fell to Waco University, 2-0. Nelson Frias was named to the all-tournament team.
The Yellow Jackets head to the Little Elm Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
The Lady Jackets beat Mineral Wells, 1-0, off a goal by Charity Gonzalez to close out the Brewer Tournament.
Cleburne takes on Brewer at 5:30 tonight at Yellow Jacket Stadium.
The Joshua Lady Owls moved to 3-2-2 after winning the sHOOTout tournament with a 2-0 win over Arlington Seguin in the semifinals and a 1-0 win over Western Hills in the championship game.
In the semifinal win, Julia Tucker scored off an assist from Amber Campbell and Hailey Wright scored off an assist from Hayley Rohleder.
In the championship game, Joshua’s Lori Gaskill scored off an assist from Sami Rios.
“We didn’t allow a goal in the tournament,” Joshua Head Coach Jeff Brooks said. “I thought that was pretty sweet.”
Joshua plays at Burleson at 6:45 p.m. Friday.

Elks fall to North Side, 4-3
Burleson ran out of postseason magic on Friday night at Herman Clark stadium in the sectional round of the Class 4A playoffs against Fort Worth North Side.
After taking a 3-1 lead with 11 minutes to go, North Side, the champions of District 13-4A, scored twice in the final minutes to force overtime. North Side’s Juan Rodriguez put in the eventual game-winning goal in the 87th minute, sending the upstart Elks, who used a late-season surge to qualify for the playoffs, home with a stunning loss. -
Lady Elks edge Granbury, 1-0
The Burleson Lady Elks keep finding ways to win. They did it again in the sectional round of the Class 4A girls’ soccer playoffs on Friday at Burleson Stadium with a 1-0 win over District 16-4A champion Granbury.
