RVISD passes resolution to satisfy TEA

By Pete Kendall/reporter@trcle.com

Rio Vista school trustees passed a resolution at Monday night’s meeting explaining why Rio Vista ISD failed to meet the Texas Education Agency requirement for recommended budget percentages.

TEA asks that 65 percent of budgets be allotted for teachers. Over half the school districts in North Texas did not meet the TEA recommendation.

“[TEA] gives you targeted percentages in different categories,” Superintendent Rock McNulty said, “and if you were under the expenditure targets, you had to pass a resolution explaining why.

“We did not meet the target of 65 percent in the area of instruction. The reasons were increased costs in utilities, workers compensation, data processing and the addition of monies to secure the school resource officer.”

In other action, the board:

zx Entered into an agreement with Huckaby Architects for a building assessment relative to Rio Vista’s need for science labs to comply with TEA mandates. The board directed McNulty to form a committee, including board members Joe Gilbert and Keith Hall, to assess building needs.

zx Learned that 100 percent of teachers in the district are rated highly qualified.

zx Passed a budget amendment to redistribute money for workers compensation and for laundry equipment in athletics.
