Ticket sales under way for ninth annual prayer breakfast

Tickets are now available for the ninth annual Cleburne Christian Leadership Prayer Breakfast, set for March 5 at Cleburne Bible Church and featuring former Secretary of the Army Pete Geren as the guest speaker.

The focus of the community event is to lift up in prayer those who are serving in leadership positions at the local, state and national levels. Tickets are $5 and must be purchased in advance and are available from prayer breakfast committee members and the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce. Doors to the church open at 6:15 a.m. for the serving of a continental breakfast, with the program set for 6:45-7:50 a.m.

Geren, who spent eight years as a Department of Defense executive, also served four terms in the U.S. Congress, representing the 12th District of Texas, which included Johnson County. In April 2010, he was named president of the nonprofit Sid W. Richardson Foundation.

Christian music recording artists-songwriters Chris and Diane Machen will perform the special music. Chris is the worship pastor at Preston Ridge Baptist Church in Frisco, and Diane’s ministry includes that of speaker and worship leader at women’s events.

Prayer leaders for the 2012 breakfast will be state Sen. Brian Birdwell, R-Granbury; Ed Shipman, founder of Happy Hill Farm Academy; and Chauncey Franks, life and character coach with the Fort Worth Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Texas Christian University.

“Pete Geren has been on our ‘wish list’ of speakers for some time,” said Lonnie Holliday, founder and committee chairman of the Cleburne Christian Leadership Prayer Breakfast. “He did a tremendous job representing Cleburne and Johnson County in the U.S. senate, and in his service our nation as Secretary of the Army. We are very excited to have him as our guest presenter.”

Members of the prayer breakfast committee also include Donnave Abt, E.J. and Larue Barnes, Vance Castles, Carol Cooper, Pat Culpepper, Brad and Janelle Evans, Freddia Gray, Frances Hafford, Dale and Pat Hanah, Pete and Sandra Hobby, Bob King, Lisa Magers, Pat Maggard, Max and Peggy Marsh, Pat McCall, Wilma Reed, Luelda Robichaux, Mildred Townsend, Lonnie Watson, Jerry Webber, Cathy Marchel, Ben and Linda Hall and Alton Flynn.
