Harmon to speak on faith, public service



County Judge Roger Harmon will address the Christian Business Club, which begins with fellowship time at 6:45 a.m. Monday at the youth center of First United Methodist Church in Cleburne. The program begins at 7 a.m.

Special music will be provided by members of the First United Methodist Church Praise Band and Student Ministries Assistant Clint Church.

Those attending are asked to bring a new toy, diapers, hats or mittens, which will be donated to Operation Blessing.

“Our December meeting is always very special,” said Christian Business Club President Phyllis Fife. “Judge Harmon will be sharing his testimony and walk of faith in his role as a county government official and servant of the people.”

Harmon has served as county judge since 1995. Before running for office, he owned and operated his own insurance company for more than 20 years.

He and his wife, Martha, are members of First Baptist Church of Godley, where Harmon is a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.

Harmon is involved in numerous organizations relating to his role as county judge. He is past president of the North and East Judges and Commissioners Association, a member of the Executive Board of the Texas Association of Counties and serves on the board of Operation Blessing.

Church, orchestra to present ‘I’ll Be Home for Christmas’



The First United Methodist Church sanctuary choir and Brazos Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Dick Helmcamp, will present the Christmas cantata “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” created by Sue C. Smith and Russell Mauldin, arranged and orchestrated by Russell Mauldin, at the 10:50 a.m. worship service Sunday in the church sanctuary.

The Christmas cantata is composed of familiar Christmas carols such as “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” and culminates with a “Joy Medley.”

Narration will be done by LaWanda Branum and Walter Schoenfeld. Hazel Bell is accompanist, Cindy Pena is librarian, and Todd Evans is personnel director of the Brazos Chamber Orchestra. Choir members who will be featured as soloists in the cantata are Ruth Philp, Cheryl Doggett, Dr. Ronald Sherwood, Roxy Sherwood, Cindy Pena, Barry Townsend, Eric Gaarz, Van Boston, Beverly Doran and Allyson House. Dr. Kurt Sprenger, lead violinist, will be soloist for the offertory, accompanied by Hazel Bell.

Other worship service opportunities are an 8:30 a.m. worship in the sanctuary, a 9:45 a.m. worship in the chapel and Sunday school for all ages at 9:45 a.m.

First United Methodist Chruch is located at 1300 W. Westhill Drive in Cleburne.
