Midkiff to speak to Christian Business Club
Mark Midkiff, who has been a volunteer and coach in Cleburne’s Upward sports program, will speak at the 7 a.m. Monday meeting of the Cleburne Christian Business Club in the Student Center of the Cleburne campus of Hill College.
Brett Woodall, minister of music at First Baptist, will provide the special music. Woodall, who is now in his second year at First Baptist, came to Cleburne from Southwest Park Baptist Church in Abilene.
“We have known and worked with Mark since the Upward program began in Cleburne,” said Jimmy Fife, Christian Business Club president. “His faith and high ideals are reflected in the coaching of his players as he encourages respectful and fair play in all practices and games.
“Mark has been quite an asset to the Cleburne Upward program, the community and his church.”
Midkiff graduated from Baylor University in 1984 and earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Baylor School of Law in 1987.
He served as briefing attorney for Judge William M. Steger, district judge for the eastern district of Texas from 1987-89. He is a partner in the Fort Worth firm of Watson, Caraway, Nelson, Midkiff and Luningham, L.L.P.
Midkiff and his wife, Debra, reside in Grandview and are the parents of six children. They are members of First Baptist Church of Cleburne, where he serves as a deacon.
The Upward program began in South Carolina in 1986 to provide boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade with a sports experience, which can include basketball, soccer, flag-football and cheerleading.
The Upward program focuses on “Christlikeness” and good sportsmanship with its “every child plays, every child learns, every child is a winner” philosophy. Character and integrity are also emphasized.
Upward programs have been established at First United Methodist Church, Cleburne Bible Church, First Baptist Church and Bethel Temple.
