For 140 years members of First Baptist Church in Cleburne have worshiped together and helped spread the good news to the surrounding community.
On Sunday a celebration will be held during the 10:30 a.m. service and the lunch following. Former First Baptist pastor Dr. Ron Horton will preach, and special music is planned.
Horton, pastor from 1977-89, is director of missions for the Creath-Brazos Baptist Association in College Station. He oversees the association’s ministries and resources for 53 congregations in Brazos, Grimes, Madison and Waller counties.
Daniel E. Crosby, pastor since 1997, will introduce special guests and participate in the days activities. Member Dale Hannah and several friends will sing special music.
Milton Ertelt, director of missions for Southwest Metroplex Baptist Association, will share information about how First Baptist has helped start local churches.
Nolan Duck, the church’s pastor from 1990-96, will participate during lunch and the sign dedication.
A professional video describing the history of the church and the stained glass windows will be shown during lunch. The clock and sign located on the parking lot were given in memory of O.C. Forrest.
A style show will also be part of the program.
A souvenir program that includes a pictorial history of the church will be given to those attending. Guest and members are encouraged to wear period costumes, old hats or jewelry.
The church is located at 105 E. Willingham in Cleburne.
