Allen Leonard Gibson, 79, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at his home in Cleburne, Texas, after a brave battle against Alzheimer’s disease.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Rosser Funeral Home Chapel, 1664 W. Henderson St., Cleburne, TX 76033.
Al was born Aug. 27, 1934, in New York City, N.Y., to Leonard and Blanche Gibson. After attending the University of Florida, Al enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Bashaw during the Korean War. His civilian career was spent in Silicon Valley, Calif., as a buyer for technology companies.
Al spent 36 years employed by Varian Associates and eventually retired from Applied Komatsu Technologies in 1999. Al was a well known licensed AKC Professional Dog Show handler and spent most weekends for more than 30 years traveling the show circuit all over the United States. He also enjoyed the occasional judging assignments when requested.
Shortly after retiring, Al and his wife, Sharon, moved to Bushnell, Fla., where he was able to be the gentlemen rancher. In March 2005, Al and Sharon once again picked up the dogs, the cat and the horses, leaving the cows behind and became residents of Cleburne, Texas.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Sharon; sons Charles (Norma) and Michael (Fuling) Gibson; step-daughter, Laureen Yungmeyer; grandchildren, Justine (Donny), Rose, Cody and Austin Yungmeyer, and Phillip and Julia Gibson; great-grandchildren, Trais, Avery and Colt Rose; sister, Lenore (Arlen) Cruttenden; nephews, Kenneth and Steven Cruttenden; and niece, Vicky Sanchez.
We send a special thank you to Debbie Mann for her loving care and companionship to both Al and Sharon.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/join_the_cause_tributes.asp in honor of Allen Gibson are requested.
