I have a new addiction. It’s an Internet addiction, of course. That probably doesn’t surprise you if you’ve been reading my columns for any length of time.
It is called Pinterest.
I heard of the website, www.pinterest.com, several times but didn’t really take time to join until recently. I wish I had done so much sooner.
When you register, you are given a clean slate and can create as many “boards” as you would like.
When you find something you like on the Internet, whether it be a photo, blog, website, etc., you can “pin” it to one of your boards.
That way, when you want to remember something, it’s all right there in one place.
For example, I find a recipe for chocolate chip cookie dough truffles. Yum. So I go to Pinterest, add the pin for the recipe to my “recipes” board and it’s saved.
The best part is you can add friends and have followers, much like Facebook and other social media sites.
So when you log on to the website, you see things that the people you follow have pinned. Then you can repin them if you’d like. Or, you can search for a particular item from everything that has been added.
I have come across many useful things this way.
Did you know there are recipes for homemade dish washing detergent, Febreze and Windex? I sure didn’t.
The “fake” Febreze recipe saves you $5.44, while the Windex one saves you $3.42. While that may not seem like a lot right now, calculate how much of that stuff you use a year. It adds up.
I enjoy pinning things like newborn photo ideas that I can use when my little girl comes, recipes for desserts and other foods and craft ideas.
I found a recipe for Weight Watchers guacamole that I’m dying to try. I also found a blog on how to turn a tablecloth into a rug. I had no idea that was even possible.
Craft and gift ideas for Christmas? How about an end table flipped upside down and painted; add a cushion and you have the perfect dog bed for your favorite animal lover. Or you could take a strip of wood, paint it, add some old door knobs and voila! A jewelry holder for your wife, sister, mother or best friend.
The possibilities are endless, especially considering you can add your own items.
Categories range from art, design and do-it-yourself and crafts to apparel, photography, pets and sports. Or maybe you like humor, home design, wedding and events or technology.
What I’m trying to say is there is something for everyone.

Monica Faram: Today is a day to celebrate miracle of life giving
Mother’s Day. Mother, by definition, means “a female parent,” but there is so much more to the word than that. This year is my first Mother’s Day as a mother, a day I have waited for my entire life.

It’s been almost four months since our little girl was born. She has been a true blessing. I’ve learned a lot in that short time, about being a mom and about being a working mom.

Monica Faram: What I’m thankful for this Christmas
Christmas is a magical time. Spirits are lifted and families gather to share in the holidays together. I like to take time around Christmas to look back and reflect on the year that’s almost completed.

Monica Faram: What ‘they’ don’t tell you about being a mom
I always knew there was this secret mothers club. While it might not be a club that meets monthly and has officers, it’s a club nonetheless.

I have a confession. Most of you already know, but I am not a fan of any Texas football teams. I like this team in Oklahoma that wears crimson and cream.

Advertisements all over are fluttering around those three little words every child under the age of 18 hates to hear in August: back. to. school.
