Someone apparently forgot to check under the hood before repossessing a car purchased from Downtown Motors in Cleburne.
The car company reported to police on Monday that the vehicle was repossessed after the buyer fell behind on payments. Repossession didn’t remedy the problem, however. With the car back in their lot, they discovered that it was missing some key components: the engine and transmission.
Investigation into the matters continues.
Police responded to a near theft April 5 in the 100 block of Century Drive. Unsubs removed three tires from a Dodge Neon, the owner reported to police, but left them there, after presumably being scared off and fleeing the scene. The tires remained, but the would-be thieves damaged the vehicle’s trunk.
Police were unable to locate suspects involved in a gas theft on Monday at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church on North Brazos Street at 11:23 p.m. Witnesses told police they saw two suspects in a truck siphoning gas from the church van. Police stopped several vehicles in the area matching that description but had no success.
Someone stole more that $3,000 worth of lawn equipment from storage buildings on the 300 block of Edgewood Lane on April 7. Police arrived to find that someone cut a chain link fence surrounding the buildings before cutting the lock on one building and cutting a hole in the wall of another.
Police responded to a call involving the theft of more than $10,000 worth of jewelry from a home on the 200 block of West Willingham Street on April 6.
Among the items taken were a 14-karat yellow gold ladies ring with a center diamond and baguettes down both sides, a 14-karat yellow gold bracelet with a heart-shaped mounting with diamonds and a 14-karat yellow gold heart pendant with diamonds and a pin clasp on the back.
Police responded to the 1200 block of Hilltop Drive at 12:54 p.m. the same day. Someone stole a 1982 red and blue Honda FL250 Odyssey ATV.
Sally’s Beauty Supply on West Henderson Street suffered a theft the same day. Two people entered the store and made off with two bottles of hair-care products valued at $92.
Police responded to the theft of a boat Friday in the 1500 block of Raintree Lane. Unsubs stole a 20-foot bass boat ... and its trailer.
Pest problems ... big problems
One squirrel’s nest is one man’s intruder. Consider Friday’s house fire in the 900 block of Clara Street caused by squirrels nesting adjacent to outdated wiring in the void space between the ceiling and roof of the home’s front porch, Cleburne Fire Marshal Bill Wright said.
The home sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. The house’s human inhabitants were not home at the time of the fire, but the owner told firefighters he smelled smoke earlier in the day. He said he gave up an unsuccessful search for the source because he had to go to a hospital to visit a relative undergoing surgery.
Something to remember her by?
A woman reported Tuesday that her former fiance stole numerous pieces of jewelry from her home. No arrests have been made, but an investigation into the matter continues.
No bull
A CareFlite ambulance transported a 16-year-old Ranger resident to Texas Health Resources Hospital Harris Fort Worth on Saturday after he fell off a bull at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds.
The boy said the bull stepped on his back after bucking him. Witnesses said they carried the boy from the arena because it was too painful for him to walk.
Additional details on the his condition have not been released.

Officials, residents remember those who gave it all
A robust breeze alleviated the heat somewhat Monday morning at Cleburne Memorial Cemetery, but also played pandemonium with the setting up of a memorial table for POW and MIA veterans. Wind tipped a vase holding a single rose shattering it on the pavement. A hastily retrieved replacement held out but at one point toppled causing water to spill inches shy of the public announcement speaker.
