Council to discuss sick-leave pay, tree trimming
Cleburne City Council members plan to tackle two controversial proposals Tuesday. Council members will discuss and possibly vote on proposed changes to the sick-leave payout policy for city employees.
Council members also plan to address proposals to trim tree limbs throughout the city to 14 feet above street level.
The council meet at 7 p.m. In Cleburne City Hall at 10 N. Robinson St. A 4:30 p.m workshop precedes the regular meeting.

Alvarado ISD board meeting on Monday
The Alvarado ISD board of trustees plans to hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the boardroom at 102 S. Bill Jackson Drive.
Those who wish to address the board may do so by completing a speaker’s card before the meeting. No person may speak for more than five minutes, and the board cannot discuss anything not on the agenda.
Among recognitions, Ernie Horn will make a presentation to the district reading bee champion; Barbara Walker from Verizon will present a grant to the technology department, and AISD spokesperson Tommy Brown will present the teachers of the month.
Various financial, maintenance and administrative reports are on the agenda for discussion.
Items for consideration include: budget adjustments, the 2012-13 school calendar, the 2012 AISD trustee election, contract services for the athletic field maintenance position, out-of-state travel requests, food service management company bid, hiring of an engineer and administrative and professional employee contracts.
The board is scheduled to go into closed session if needed to discuss personnel matters and contracts.
During the open meeting, board members may make announcements or comments concerning general topics that are of interest to the board, staff or community, including calendar items.

One injury in Joshua bus accident in Burleson
One 8-year-old boy was transported to a Fort Worth hospital after a Durham Transportation bus transporting Caddo Grove Elementary School students rear-ended a vehicle on Thursday afternoon.
The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. The bus hit an Infiniti in the 1400 block of Southwest Wilshire Boulevard.
Forty-four people were on the bus. Forty were children from Joshua ISD , three teachers and one bus driver.
The bus was moved to an H-E-B grocery store parking lot where H-E-B employees provided food and drinks.
According to a Burleson press release, Burleson police worked the crash while Burleson firefighters and MedStar personnel tended to the riders. The crash was reported as a minor crash.
The children were later released to their parents.

Commissioners court seeks to broadcast meeting online
The Johnson County Commissioners Court could take a step toward providing another layer of transparency on Monday during one of its schedule meetings.
The court will consider a motion to approve recording its meeting and providing public access to the videos through Johnson County’s website.
The court will also consider a development agreement with Cleburne for future street improvement related to the development of the Emergency Operation Center.
The center is designed to provide a central location for county officials to coordinate efforts in the event of emergency or disaster and a training and information resource for county cities, said Jack Snow, Johnson County Emergency Management coordinator.
The commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Monday in the Johnson County Courthouse.

Liberty Hotel hosts Casino Night on Saturday
Cleburne’s third annual Casino Night is from 7:30-11 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty Hotel at 205 S. Caddo St. Tickets are $40 per person and $75 per couple. Overnight room packages, which includes two tickets, range from $99 to $125.
The night includes gambling, live music, silent auctions, raffles and more. First place receives $300 and second place $200.
Funds from the night benefit the Downtown Cleburne Association.

Southwestern hosts Valentine Vocal Spectacular
Southwestern Adventist University’s hosts a Valentine Vocal Spectacular at 7 p.m. today at the Wharton Auditorium.
The concert features some of Southwestern’s most talented student vocalists, all members of the elite University Singers. A chocolate fondue reception is after the concert.
Tickets are available at the Wharton Auditorium Box Office starting at 6 p.m.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the University Singers tour and mission trip to Puerto Rico. Tickets are $15; bring a date and you’re eligible for 2 tickets for $25.

Burleson ISD plans to shape 2012-13 budget
Burleson school district will continue discussing its budget for the upcoming school year in its meeting on Monday evening in the Burleson ISD Administration Building.
Chief Financial Officer Karen Wiesman said that the administration is interested in a collaborative discussion about the priorities for the next budget cycle.
Administration would like to alleviate any staff concerns regarding employment for the 2012-13 school year as soon as possible.
Administrative staff members do not believe there will be any significant change in school finance for the coming year, and it’s unclear how the Legislative Budget Board and the Legislature will react to the pending lawsuits, Wiesman said.
The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the BISD Administration Building, 1160 S.W. Wilshire Blvd.
