A Tuesday gas fire at Schlumberger resulted in no injuries or damage.
Cleburne firefighters responded to the site in the 3500 block of Windmill Road at 7:25 p.m. after receiving reports of a propane tank on fire.
Fire Marshal Bill Wright arrived first and reported fire showing from the propane tank, which Wright said was “well away” from any structures on the property.
Most of the employees had evacuated the area before firefighters arrived, and the gas supply to all buildings at the facility had been turned off.
The tank, employees told firefighters, is used strictly for heating and plays no part in any of the processes undertaken at the plant.
The fire was about 20 feet from a large vertically mounted tank that holds about 3,000 gallons. A liquid line coming from the bottom of the tank runs about 20 feet to vaporizers, according to CFD reports. The fire, fed by propane, issued from a pop-off vent on one of the vaporizers and resulted in flames about three feet high.
Since the fire appeared to be causing no harm, firefighters used hoses to spray down nearby equipment to keep it cool.
The fire went out at one point, but reignited shortly after, according to reports.
Employees told firefighters that a propane truck driver had filled the tank earlier that day, and had alerted them of a leak somewhere in the line, according to reports.
Firefighters donned full bunker gear and entered the site to turn off supply valves to the tank and lines. The fire subsided but did not completely go out. The fire slowly went out after firefighters re-entered the site and switched off valves on the opposite side of the vaporizers.
The driver that delivered the propane told firefighters he alerted officials of the initial leak, and that a repair crew arrived to fix the problem, according to reports.
Another vaporizer apparently began to leak shortly after, however, which caused the fire that firefighters responded to.
Firefighters remained on scene to ensure that the leak had ceased and the gas had dispersed.
Police calls
Cleburne police responded to the 1200 block of Tanglewood Drive at 9:39 p.m. Wednesday on a vehicle burglary. Someone broke into and stole two rifles from a man’s truck.
Reports list the rifles as a Remington with a wood stock and a Tasco scope and a Remington 700 Ultra Mag with a brown wood stock and a Nikon scope.
A woman reported at the Cleburne Police Department on June 16 that someone broke into her Jeep Cherokee and stole her purse, sunglasses, identification and other items. The crime occurred the same day sometime between 9-9:30 p.m. while the Jeep was parked at Hulen Park.

Officials, residents remember those who gave it all
A robust breeze alleviated the heat somewhat Monday morning at Cleburne Memorial Cemetery, but also played pandemonium with the setting up of a memorial table for POW and MIA veterans. Wind tipped a vase holding a single rose shattering it on the pavement. A hastily retrieved replacement held out but at one point toppled causing water to spill inches shy of the public announcement speaker.
