CHS students compete in Scholastic art contest

Several students in the Art II and Art III classes at Cleburne High School were among the honorees in the 2013 Region 11 Visual Arts Scholastic Event.

Receiving the Superior score of IV for their entries were Jessica Vasquez, Jordan James and Hunter Tanem. In addition to achieving the top rating, Tanem was also awarded a perfect score in the competition.

A rating of Excellent was given to entries submitted by Kayla Johnson, Trevor Lakey, Margarita Silva and Itzel Anderson.

In the VASE competition, the artist’s knowledge of the elements and principles used in creating their entry is judged, along with the piece itself. Judges look for originality of concept, technical expertise and understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for visual art, and the interpretation of the student’s stated event.

This was the second year of VASE recognition for Johnson, James and Anderson.

The students’ participation in the art contest was coordinated by CHS art teacher Jana Trimble.
