Save Old Cleburne’s 34th annual Candlewalk Historic Home Tour will be from 1-8 p.m. Saturday and will feature six turn-of-the-century homes, including the Woolridge-Frosch home at 710 Forrest.
Pat Frosch moved to Cleburne in March, still unpacking and finding a place for everything. Fearless about not being ready, she invites you to tour her home.
Clayton and Margaret Wooldridge built this cottage-style influenced home in 1940. They were active members of the Cleburne community and owned ”Wooldridge Wholesale Grocery” in East Cleburne.
Pat is a lifetime collector of primitive furniture and folk art. Rare to find in the south, Pat has a collection of Schoenhut circus performers and safari animals. The Schoenhut Toy Company in Philadelphia stared making toys in 1904. As Teddy Roosevelt went out on safari in Africa, they started making safari animals. The toy company went out of business in 1927. These toys depict the popularity of the visiting circus at the turn of the century. She also collects Noah’s Ark sets, her oldest, a German set made in the late 1800s.
The house has a large living room featuring these collections, primitive and folk art carvings, pillows and paintings. The dining room has a prized penny rug serving as a tablecloth. A pie safe holds canned pickles and relish jars. The country theme is continued with baskets and a collection of crocks. Pat’s “miniature real estate” is throughout the home, replicas of buildings, cabins, dollhouses and an old schoolhouse.
The front bedroom is reminiscent of the Civil War period with furnishings, homespun fabrics and quilts. Ragdolls from the 1800s in their tattered dresses warm a corner cabinet.
The large den has brick floors, built-in shelves, a wall of books and a fireplace. A circle of cozy, comfortable chairs are ready for the holiday visiting. Old advertising signs hang on the walls. A primitive hutch and antique store fixtures divide the room into two spaces.
Save Old Cleburne would like to thank Frosch for opening her home so soon after moving to Cleburne. Thank you to Heritage Trails Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for sponsoring the Candlewalk Historic Home Tour.

Officials, residents remember those who gave it all
A robust breeze alleviated the heat somewhat Monday morning at Cleburne Memorial Cemetery, but also played pandemonium with the setting up of a memorial table for POW and MIA veterans. Wind tipped a vase holding a single rose shattering it on the pavement. A hastily retrieved replacement held out but at one point toppled causing water to spill inches shy of the public announcement speaker.
