17-year-old boy drowns in Lake Pat

A 17-year-old Cleburne boy drowned Thursday evening at Lake Pat Cleburne. Cleburne firefighters responded at 6:45 p.m. and recovered the victim at about 7:30 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Emmanuel Moreno-Gamez by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner.

Moreno-Gamez and a friend, 18, were fishing near the lake’s spillway when the victim apparently slipped and fell in the lake. The victim could not swim. His friend jumped in to try to save him but was unsuccessful.

Moreno-Gamez's friend realized his cellphone, still in his pocket, was damaged and would not work. He went to his truck and left the scene in search of a phone, firefighters said. A short time later stopped upon seeing other people by the lake to call 911. Firefighters said there was a delay in calling 911 since the man could not speak English.

Cleburne Assistant Fire Chief Keith Scarbrough said CFD divers went into the water where the victim fell in and found him right away, but added that he was already dead.
