2009's Top Ten: No. 8 Joshua has banner year
Joshua ISD opened a new football stadium, built a new middle school, began renovations to the old middle school and high school, continued to enhance technology and security programs, passed a tax election, achieved a balanced budget and still managed a $23.2 million fund balance when the completion of the audit for the 2008-09 school year.
Some $8 million of the fund balance has been earmarked for construction-related projects. Much of the fund balance is considered rainy-day, emergency revenue.
Joshua ISD was rated academically acceptable by the state. It had three exemplary elementary campuses, two recognized elementaries and a recognized rating for Joshua High School. Loflin Middle School and the Accelerated Learning Center were academically acceptable.
Joshua is celebrating a lot lately. Superintendent Ray Dane gives much of the credit for the district’s recent success to its employees.
Joshua’s successes are reflected in TAKS scores. In math, 90 percent of Loflin Middle School students met the passing standard, with 31 percent of them commended. Joshua also administers three times a year before TAKS time.
In the most recent benchmark results, the middle school scored between 98 and 99 percent on reading.
Dane is pleased with positive attention the district is receiving.
