Edwards files for re-election
U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards filed for re-election in November’s election to his District 17 seat on Thursday.
Edwards has won 10 consecutive elections and begins his 2010 campaign with more than $1 million in the bank, said Elizabeth Connor, Edwards campaign manager.
“I want to keep working hard for the hard-working families of our district and for the men and women who have served our nation in uniform,” Edwards said. “Fighting for jobs and economic development in our district, supporting our troops and veterans during a time of war and reducing federal deficits will be my top priorities in the months and years ahead.”

Wreck victim remains hospitalized
An 80-year-old Cleburne man involved in a Dec. 3 traffic accident remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, CPD Sgt. Amy Knoll said.
Knoll had no further details on the man’s condition.
A CareFlite helicopter transported Carl McDonald to John Peter Smith Hospital after a Ford pickup struck a Toyota in the 300 block of Texas 174.
The accident occurred at about 2:50 p.m. and closed traffic in both directions until about 8:30 p.m.
The driver of the Ford, a 29-year-old Cleburne man, was taken by ambulance to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital where he was treated and released.
The Ford, traveling northbound, apparently crossed all lanes of traffic and struck the southbound Toyota head on.
Investigation into the cause of the accident continues and may take a while, Knoll said. No charges connected to the accident have been filed, she said.

JCSO answers assault calls
Authorities responded to a call involving an alleged assault with bodily injury last Friday on Futrell Court in Cleburne, according to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The suspect reportedly closed a door on the complainant’s hand, causing injury.
On Sunday on County Road 1022 in Joshua, in a dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend, the suspect allegedly hit the complainant in the face with a fist.
Nov. 26 on East Bethesda in Burleson in a dispute between aboyfriend and girlfriend, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim by making contact that was provocative.
Three additional assaults at one location, Marie Street in Joshua, were reported Dec. 1. Three officers and Sheriff Bob Alford responded.
In one incident involving a son-in-law and mother-in-law, the suspect hit the complainant in the face with a fist, causing a front bottom tooth to be knocked loose and causing pain.
In the second incident, involving a son-in-law and father-in-law, the suspect reportedly punched the complainant in the face with a closed fist, causing pain and blood.
In the third incident, involving a husband and wife, the suspect reportedly hit the victim multiple times and then struck the victim with a plunger, causing a possible fracture to the victim’s hand.

The Cleburne Yellow Jackets beat Burleson, 62-48, on Friday night at Yellow Jacket Gym to move to 2-7 in District 7-A play. Burleson fell to 2-7 in league play with the loss.

Fallen deputy Clifton Taylor’s sister, Megan Davis, takes a picture of a painting of her brother on Monday during a dedication to the deputy. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office renamed its building to the Clifton Taylor Law Enforcement Center in honor of the deputy who lost his life during a disturbance call in April. The picture was painted by Fort Worth artist Gary Crouch. Three pictures were made and one will hang in the Clifton Taylor Law Enforcement Center. The other two paintings were presented as gifts to Taylor’s parents and his fiancee.
