The Cleburne Police Department invites residents to a meet and greet with the department’s new chief from 2-4 p.m. Thursday at the Cleburne Conference Center, 1501 W. Henderson St.
Several members of CPD attended Robert Severance’s official swearing in ceremony held Dec. 28 at city hall. They and others also attended an introductory meeting at CCC held in November shortly after Severance was hired.
Severance replaces former Chief Terry Powell, who retired last year after 32 years of service with CPD. City Manager Rick Holden, assisted by an ad hoc committee, hired Severance from a pool of more than 40 applicants.
Severance served as lieutenant and Community Services Division commander for 22 years with the Grand Prairie Police Dept. and was recently appointed to train during the 251st Session of the FBI’s National Academy.
Severance may be new to the job, but he’s hardly unfamiliar with Cleburne. Severance said his mother and uncle grew up here and that his great-great-grandfather, Samuel Lee Davidson, settled in Cleburne in 1902 and owned land that Nolan River Road now runs through.
“I think this is an exciting time for Cleburne,” Severance said after taking his oath of office. “And I’m looking forward to getting started.”
