Child in day care struck by car

A sports utility vehicle hit a 4-year-old Cleburne boy who ran into the street Monday morning.

A CareFlite helicopter flew the boy to Cook Children’s Medical Center. Details about his condition is not available. Rescue workers characterized the boy’s injuries as not life threatening.

The boy attends Field Street Baptist Church Day care. A group of students were lined up to cross the street from the church to the playground when the boy apparently ran into North Field Street and was struck by the SUV, which was pulling out from dropping somebody off, Cleburne Police Sgt. Amy Knoll said.

The boy was conscious and crying when firefighters arrived, Cleburne Assistant Fire Chief Randy Jenkins said. He suffered abrasions and cuts to his right foot and ankle, according to reports.

Attempts to reach the boy’s family for comment were unsuccessful.
