CHS one-act play moves on to district
Show to be performed for community tonight
Cleburne High School’s UIL one-act play entry, “Sweet Nothing in My Ear,” was selected to advance to the District 8 contest after Tuesday’s performance in zone competition.
A community presentation of “Sweet Nothing in My Ear” will begin at 7 p.m. tonight in CHS’s Don Smith Performing Arts Center.
Several members of the Cleburne cast came away with individual honors, including best actor, awarded to Robert Ortiz. Named to the all-star cast were Kathleen Rader and Caitlin McCoy, with Bryce Hagan receiving all-star honorable mention.
The district round of one-act play competition will take place Saturday at Joshua High School. Cleburne is scheduled to perform at 4:30 p.m.
“It was just amazing; they did so well,” said CHS theater arts teacher Sally Maxey. “We received great comments from the judge. It’s a beautiful play, and our kids do a wonderful job performing it.”
“Sweet Nothing in My Ear” is a culmination of speaking, acting and sign language in telling the story of a couple at a crossroads in their marriage over their son. They contemplate whether the son should continue to function in the silent world of the hearing impaired, a world he shares with his mother, who is also deaf, or, with the aid of cochlear implants, move into his father’s world of sound.
