Juvenile Services of Johnson and Somervell Counties scored 100 percent on its first audit Dec. 4-6 by the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission.
“She is an exceptional chief,” TJPC Chief of Staff Debbie Garza said of director Lisa Tomlinson. “She runs an excellent department, and the 100 percent reflects that.”
The audit reviewed the state money received from TJPC for fiscal 2006 in quarterly installments, which was $453,308.
Because Tomlinson’s juvenile probation facility received such a high score, TJPC will probably not conduct another audit any time soon, Garza said.
Tomlinson credits the county auditors for a job well done.
“The Johnson County auditor’s office is so helpful,” Tomlinson said.
All the money goes through the auditors, Tomlinson said, and then the two offices work together to write quarterly reports and see how the money will be distributed.
The $453,308 is about the same amount of state money the center has received in other years, Tomlinson said. As always, the majority of the budget goes toward personnel — salaries and training — but a significant portion goes straight to the treatment and monitoring of children in the system, Tomlinson said.
The number of cases that came through her office is down from last year, she said. Drug cases and misdemeanor theft charges are also down from last year.
The number of misdemeanor and felony assault charges has increased since last year, and property crimes (including burglaries and thefts) are still heavy.
“There’s not been a significant change in the number of felonies we’ve had this year,” Tomlinson said.
As always, the majority of the cases are drug cases, she said.

Fallen deputy Clifton Taylor’s sister, Megan Davis, takes a picture of a painting of her brother on Monday during a dedication to the deputy. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office renamed its building to the Clifton Taylor Law Enforcement Center in honor of the deputy who lost his life during a disturbance call in April. The picture was painted by Fort Worth artist Gary Crouch. Three pictures were made and one will hang in the Clifton Taylor Law Enforcement Center. The other two paintings were presented as gifts to Taylor’s parents and his fiancee.
