Cleburne City Council members Tuesday will consider approving the demolition of two long-standing Cleburne facilities.

The council will first vote on a $32,750 bid submitted by Midwest Wrecking Co. to demolish Carver Pool. The pool, closed for more than a year, has been replaced by a splash pad. Midwest Wrecking also submitted a $35,680 bid to demolish the old Booker T. Washington High School building. The city’s 4B Economic Development Corp. intends to renovate the building housing the school’s gym for use as the Booker T. Washington Community and Recreation Center.

Council members will also vote on a resolution granting City Manager Chester Nolen approval to negotiate a contract with Freese & Nichols Engineering to perform engineering services related to a water and wastewater rate study. The proposed study is part of a long-range water plan Public Works Director Russell Schreiber presented to council members in a May workshop. The long-range study considers Cleburne’s water needs over the next 50 years.

The Cleburne City Council meets at 7 p.m. in council chambers at city hall, 10 N. Robinson St. A 4:30 p.m. workshop session precedes the meeting.
