Upgrades could come for Texas 171

Cleburne City Council members will discuss improvements during Tuesday’s meeting to Texas 171 near the intersection of Windmill Road.

The council will consider hiring Kimley-Horn and Associates to design improvement plans for the intersection, which will include traffic signal designs, roadway designs, a left-turn lane, storm drainage evaluation and design and a temporary traffic control plan. Public Works Director Russell Schreiber said the increased truck traffic in the area has necessitated the improvements. Should the council members agree, costs for the design improvements are not to exceed $72,000.

The council will also vote on whether to spend $81,612 from the city’s general fund for a storage facility and wash bay to be used by all city departments. The project will also be funded by Cletran via a $200,000 grant and by $71,500 from the city’s Water Wastewater Fund.

Council members will also consider filling vacancies on the Cleburne Animal Shelter Advisory Board.

The city council meeting is 7 p.m. Tuesday at city hall, 10 N. Robinson St. A 4:30 p.m. workshop session precedes the meeting.

A hastily retrieved replacement held out but at one point toppled causing water to spill inches shy of the public announcement speaker.
