‘Wisdom’ came easily for FW poet Seate
Poetry is a literary art form that doesn’t come easy to many people. But for Emily Seate, it’s second nature.
“Poetry has just always come easy to me,” she said.
Seate just finished her first book of poetry, titled “Foolish Wisdom,” and is holding a book signing from 2-4 p.m. July 22 at The Bookcase in the Nolan River Mall in Cleburne.
Seate said the book is just a few weeks old, but she feels like her whole life is poured into the pages.
“It took two months to put together, but 30 years to write,” she said. “The reason I never put a poetry book together before now is because poetry always came easy to me, so I didn’t value it. Now I know.”
The book’s poems come from poetry Seate wrote while growing up and all through adulthood. She said it’s an autobiographical mix of experiences and feelings she’s had over the years.
“It’s poetry people can relate to,” she said. “It’s about general things, like friendship and stuff like that.”
Seate’s mother, Milbra Long of Cleburne, said writing has always been Seate’s forte.
“She’s always loved to write,” Long said. “She’s written poems all her life, and now she’s put them together into what’s turned out to be a wonderful poetry book.”
In addition to poetry, Seate is also the writer of a fiction series called the Heartland Chronicles. The series revolves around an ancient Egyptian healer named Ah-mah, who is also the world’s first reflexologist. Seate herself is a reflexologist, though she only practices on friends and family.
“I like to write what I know,” she said.
The first book of the series is already published and the second should come out in October, she said.
In addition to her writing career, Seate and Long also run a replacement service for discontinued American-made crystal.
“We’re called Milbra’s Crystal. Go figure,” she said jokingly.
The mom and daughter duo have been in business since 1984, helping appraise and replace customer’s crystal pieces.

Seate said she has received a lot of praise about “Foolish Wisdom,” and hopes the signing goes well.
“I’m really excited about the book signing in Cleburne,” she said. “I think it’s going to be really great.”
