Two men were killed Friday in a wreck involving two pickups and a van on U.S. 67.
Officials pronounced one man dead at the scene. The second man died several hours later after being transported to a Fort Worth hospital by helicopter. Vicente Cuevas, 68, of Keene died at John Peter Smith Hospital at 7 p.m. Friday, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s website.
The accident occurred about 2 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 67 and County Road 801B. The second man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene of the accident.
The driver of a white van traveling northbound on CR 801B attempted to cross both lanes of U.S. 67 and clipped the back quarter panel of a Dodge pickup traveling westbound on U.S. 67. The collision caused the Dodge to lose control and spin around into the oncoming path of a Ford pickup traveling eastbound on U.S. 67.
The Ford T-boned the Dodge, sending both trucks onto the side of the road.
The collision killed the driver of the Ford.
A CareFlite helicopter flew Cuevas to JPS where he later died. Cuevas was a passenger in the Dodge. The driver, whose name has not been released, was transported to a Fort Worth hospital via ambulance. Details of his condition have not been released.
The driver of the Dodge also suffered injury and was transported to Fort Worth in a CareFlite ambulance.
The driver of the van was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne with minor injuries, rescue workers said.
Police said that, according to witness statements, the driver of the van attempted to drive off after the accident but was unable to do so. The van had out-of-date Oklahoma plates and an inspection sticker from another vehicle, police said.
