Arrest made in Cleburne murder

Dallas man charged for alleged killing of Mesquite resident, 30

— Cleburne police arrested a Dallas man in connection with the early Thursday morning shooting death of a Mesquite man in Cleburne.

Police arrested James Sample on Thurday afternoon, CPD Dep. Chief Amy Knoll said at 2:25 p.m.

Knoll said she had no additional details about Sample’s arrest or charge.

Police and firefighters responded to reports of a possible gun shot victim at 5:32 a.m. in the 10 block of Shaffer Street to find the 30-year-old victim dead at the scene.

The man, Brian Poole, had two gunshot wounds to the right side of his forehead and a blanket wrapped or tied around him, according to reports.

Knoll said earlier Thursday afternoon that investigation into the matter continues with detectives conducting interviews. Knoll said police are treating the matter as a murder investigation. Knoll said that, rumors to the contrary, no Cleburne officers fired any shots in the incident and that Poole was already deceased when police and rescue workers arrived.

Knoll said additional details of the crime, and any possible additional arrests, will be released as they become available.

Police discovered Poole’s body in a building on the corner of Shaffer and North Main streets with the business name Gloria’s Hair Studio painted on the side. It is unclear whether the business is open at this time or what Poole’s connection to the building or Cleburne, if any, is. Knoll said she believes the building is vacant and not being used to operate a business.
