Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne recently received a HoverTech HoverMatt air transfer system compliments of the hospital’s volunteer program, and staff members look forward to using it for repositioning patients or transferring them to new beds with ease.
The HoverMatt allows medical staff to safely and effortlessly move a patient, as the system props the patient on a cushion of air. It can be used in nearly every area of the hospital — to assist with lifting overweight patients, patients with sensitive skin that might get injured during movement or those who need to be moved quickly.
“Even during the demo, [staff members] said they realized it could be used in other places,” said Ronda Dillard, a nurse on the Texas Health staff. “Many said it would be good for the radiology department or the operating room, when a person has been put under anesthesia and is dead weight.”
Dillard said she could move a 600-pound person by herself with assistance of the new equipment, and that any injuries to caregivers or patients would be virtually eliminated with its use.
