Child sex abuse case among the ‘worst’ seen

Authorities arrest 2 in connection with abuse of 7-, 9-year-old

Johnson County Sheriff’s Office officials working with members of the Texas Rangers have arrested a Mansfield woman and an Arlington man on multiple charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, an official with the sheriff’s office said Wednesday.

Photos recovered during the search of the woman’s house rank among the worst child pornography investigators have ever seen, Lt. Tim Jones said.

Authorities received a tip from out of state on Monday, Jones said, that explicit child sexual abuse was occurring at a residence in Johnson County on County Road 526.

Rosalyn Elizabeth Burdett, 40, was detained at the scene where investigators obtained several electronic hardware devices allegedly containing graphic sexual images of children engaging in sexual acts with adults of both genders.

During questioning, Burdett admitted to engaging in sexual acts with the children and was arrested. The children involved at this point in the investigation are a 7-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl.

Jay Thomas Morgan, 49, of Arlington was arrested at his work location on South Cooper Street in Arlington on Tuesday. Investigators seized a number of electronic storage devices related to the case during a subsequent search of Thomas’ home in the 700 block of Simi Drive in Arlington, Jones said.

Investigation into both cases continues, Jones said, with additional interviews and search warrants expected to be conducted and served in Texas and other states.

Anyone whose children have had contact with Burdett or Thomas is urged to call the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office at 817-556-6058 or 817-556-6060 after hours.

Johnson County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Ronny McBroom magistrated Burdett and Thomas on Wednesday morning and set bond at $500,000 each.

McBroom also issued an emergency protective order against both prohibiting them from contact with the victims and ordered special sexual conditions of bond on both.
