The people who made Quint’s Court a reality at Gerard Elementary School were honored recently for their contributions in creating a new place for students to play.
Ted and Angela Reynolds, owners of Westhill Construction, Dawn Goins of On the Rocks, and Joey Thompson visited Gerard’s new basketball court, which was made possible through their generosity.
The court is dedicated to the memory of Quintin Lamb, who was a member of the Gerard fifth-grade class of 1998 and the Cleburne High School class of 2005. Lamb died in February 2008, only a handful of days before his 21st birthday.
Lamb’s classmates began talking about doing something at Gerard in memory of Quintin in the days after his death.
“All of us wanted to do something, but we didn’t know what,” said Megan Holleman, who went through school with Lamb from the time they were at Gerard, through graduation. “The idea started with us talking about how we all used to meet up to play basketball.”
“We visited Gerard and noticed the basketball court was a bit worn, so we talked about getting a new court for the school in Quintin’s memory,” she said. “We knew it would be a large project, but anytime someone heard about it, they offered to help.”
Lamb’s classmates were the first to play on the court after its completion.
“I think it will be a place where we will continue to gather,” she said. “The teachers at Gerard want to contribute toward trees and benches to be placed around the court. Quintin’s mother, Michele, teaches at Gerard.”
“It will be a fun place to go back and reflect on past memories,” Holleman said. “It’s very uplifting to know that it will be a place where children are playing and happy. It’s a wonderful and appropriate way to remember Quintin. This is a place where children can come and have fun, and he was all about having fun. If he knew anything was wrong with you, or if you were sad, he wanted to turn that around and make you smile.”
Retired CHS head basketball coach Jeff Cody is also pleased about a new place where children can play his favorite sport on a court dedicated to the memory of a Jacket who also loved the game.
“Quintin was a wonderful kid to coach,” Cody said. “He was a hard worker and a very outstanding young man for our program. He exemplified what a Jacket was supposed to be. This is a great thing that has been done in his memory.”

Fallen deputy Clifton Taylor’s sister, Megan Davis, takes a picture of a painting of her brother on Monday during a dedication to the deputy. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office renamed its building to the Clifton Taylor Law Enforcement Center in honor of the deputy who lost his life during a disturbance call in April. The picture was painted by Fort Worth artist Gary Crouch. Three pictures were made and one will hang in the Clifton Taylor Law Enforcement Center. The other two paintings were presented as gifts to Taylor’s parents and his fiancee.
