The Godley ISD student dress code allows hair to, but not touching, the shoulders and bars unusual hair styles such as spikes and mohawks. The family of a potential student apparently wants to challenge the rule.
According to WFAA.com, 12-year-old Chris McGregor has been banned from the Godley Middle School classroom because of his hair length. The boy’s father, Allen McGregor, is quoted in the report as saying his son wants to emulate Brazilian soccer players.
Godley ISD superintendent Paul Smithson told the Times-Review on Thursday morning that the family has talked to the district about enrolling the boy but has not officially enrolled him. Therefore, Smithson said, the boy is not yet banned from anything.
“If he enrolls, we will do a residence check,” Smithson said. “In the first week, the principals give kids three or four days to get haircuts. If the kids keep breaking the rule, they go to in-school suspension. Our hair code mirrors what our community expects.”
