Cleburne native Amy Tuley is living proof that it doesn’t hurt to take chances.
The 22-year-old dancer who graduated from the University of North Texas in May secured her first professional dance job with Los Angeles-based Diavolo Dance Theater a week before school was out.
Diavolo company members are required to be more than “just dancers.” They are also seasoned gymnasts and athletes who create shows that incorporate many variations of dance styles, including acrobatics. The city of Los Angeles recognized Diavolo as a cultural treasure in 2007.
“I had never done a professional audition,” Tuley said of the Dallas audition in early May. “But a couple of friends and I decided to go together, thinking we didn’t have to take it really serious because people usually audition hundreds of times before they get anything.”
