Cresson man, 24, charged in Saturday shooting death

Taylor Hayworth, 24, of Cresson was charged with manslaughter and released on $25,000 bond Sunday in connection with a Saturday morning incident that claimed the life of Lorenzo Mercado Jr., also 24, of Cresson.

According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, Mercado died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Time of death was listed as 5:20 a.m.

Alford said the incident occurred at about 4:15 a.m. in the 300 block of S. Crook in Cresson He added that when deputies arrived, they determined that the deceased had been shot during a disturbance.

Mercado was transported by CareFlite to Texas Health Resources Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Elsewhere, five marijuana possession cases were magistrated Monday morning by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Ronny McBroom.

Carrie King, 36, of Cleburne was charged with marijuana possession under 2 ounces, $500 bond.

Charles Vanbibber, 20, of Cleburne was charged with marijuana possession under 2 ounces, $500 bond.

Micheaux Ervin, 22, of Cleburne was charged with marijuana possession under 2 ounces, $500 bond.

Michael Garrett, 25, of Arlington was charged with marijuana possession under 2 ounces, $500 bond.

Matthew Riechard, 25, of Burleson was charged with marijuana possession under 2 ounces, $500 bond.

William Elliott of Joshua was charged with public intoxication, $300 fine or bond.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Brandon Parker in connection with an alleged assault Thursday on Longbranch in Burleson. Parker was charged with assault causes bodily injury family violence and held without bond. He allegedly assaulted his father, according to reports.

Deputies were also investing a reported assault and two reported burglaries.

On Thursday on Cimmaron Trail in Rio Vista in a disturbance between a stepdaughter and stepfather, the suspect allegedly punched victim twice.

Sunday on Farm-to-Market Road 2738 North in Alvarado, an unknown suspect broke into a travel trailer and took items, including rocking recliners valued at $400, dining room set with four chairs valued at $300, a washer and dryer valued at $2,000, Samsung flat screen TV valued at $1,400, Coleman air-conditioning unit valued at $1,000 and 12-volt batteries valued at $75.

Also on Thursday, someone broke into a residence in Venus and took items, including an air-conditioning unit valued at $200.

    The 2011 Lone Star Chrysler Dodge Jeep Autoplex All-Johnson-County football team has been announced. The team was chosen by the Times-Review sports department based on all-district selections and coaches’ nominations.
    The first-team offense included Alvarado quarterback Kenny West and Burleson quarterback Barrett Cain.

    The second-team offense was led by Cleburne’s Quade Coward and Godley’s Rhett Brawner as the second-team quarterbacks.

Fallen deputy Clifton Taylor’s sister, Megan Davis, takes a picture of a painting of her brother on Monday during a dedication to the deputy. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office renamed its building to the Clifton Taylor Law Enforcement Center in honor of the deputy who lost his life during a disturbance call in April. The picture was painted by Fort Worth artist Gary Crouch. Three pictures were made and one will hang in the Clifton Taylor Law Enforcement Center. The other two paintings were presented as gifts to Taylor’s parents and his fiancee.
