Motorcycle stunt attracts attention of EMTs

By Matt Smith/msmith@trcle.com

— A motorcycle accident Saturday sent a 21-year-old Cleburne man to the hospital.

The accident occurred about 4:20 p.m. near Country Club Road and Lakeshore Drive.

Witnesses told firefighters that the man was doing a wheelie at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his bike in gravel.

The man was wearing a helmet when the wreck occurred, witnesses said.

Cleburne firefighters arrived to find the man lying on the side of the road being assisted by bystanders.

A CareFlite ambulance transported the man to an area hospital. Details of his condition have not been released.

Tree problems

Firefighters responded to two Saturday calls involving trees.

Firefighters responded to the 700 block of Williams Avenue at 10:03 p.m. after a large limb fell onto power lines.

A homeowner said his wife injured herself jumping out of the way when the limb fell as she was walking to the car. The woman was taken to an area hospital by private vehicle before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters responded to a tree fire in the 200 block of Odell Avenue at 5:03 p.m. the same day.

The blazing tree was in a field behind his house, the caller told firefighters. The man said he saw “some kids” running from the area shortly before the fire started.

Firefighters found a couch under the tree on fire and almost completely burned up. The large tree has several smaller trees around it. Children apparently cut limbs out to make an opening and used a brush canopy to create a fort. A well-traveled path stretches from the tree to both Franklin and Buffalo streets. Firefighters extinguished the fire and wet down the area around the trees.

Police calls

Cleburne police responded to Albertson’s grocery store at 7:11 p.m. Sunday on a vehicle burglary. Someone broke the window of a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire and stole a purse, CDs, a camera and other items. Police are reviewing video surveillance film for suspects.

Police responded to a theft call Friday in the 800 block of West Wardville Street on a theft call. Someone stole two bicycles from a residence. The first is described as a blue Next bicycle with some red spray paint on the frame and a flat rear tire. The second is a light green Next bicycle with gray in sections where it has been sanded.

Police responded to the 2000 block of Pebblebrook Drive at 10:30 a.m. the same day. Someone stole a ping pong table from a home.

Police responded to the 1100 block of Lone Star Avenue on Saturday on a suspicious activity call. Police arrived to find that someone had kicked in the door of a vacant house.
