Freshman arrested after bomb scare

Girl, 14, taken to Hood County Juvenile Detention Facility

Cleburne police arrested a 14-year-old, female Cleburne High School freshman Monday night after a bomb threat caused officials to evacuate the school earlier that day.

Police arrested the girl, whose name has not been released, about 8 p.m., Police Chief Terry Powell said. She is charged with false alarm, making a false report, which because it occurred in a school, is a state-jail felony, Powell said.

Police made the arrest after several students came forward with information, and officers gleaned additional information after interviewing the suspect, according to a CPD press release.

Authorities transferred the girl to the Hood County Juvenile Detention Facility. A detention hearing will be held sometime this week.

Police uncovered no evidence the girl actually had a bomb or explosive device.

CHS administrators evacuated the school about 2 p.m. Monday after a note that said a bomb would go off at 2:30 p.m. was discovered in a bathroom and turned in to a teacher, CISD spokeswoman Lisa Magers said.

Students walked to nearby Wheat Middle School where they waited in a gym while Cleburne police and fire personnel searched the high school. No bomb was found and no injuries occurred. Students returned to CHS about an hour and 15 minutes after evacuating.

“We thank the student body for acting appropriately and the police force for their efforts in bringing such rapid closure to this incident,” CHS Principal Monte Pritchett said.
