Meals-on-Wheels and Waxahachie offer caregiver workshop

Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties and the city of Waxahachie will co-host “Caring for Our Elders,” a workshop and resource fair from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Waxahachie Sr. Center.

The workshop will offer information to those caring for the elderly, loved ones, or someone with an illness. A $5 donation to attend is requested, which includes lunch.

Andy Crocker, an aging expert with the Area Agency on Aging, will present “Caring for You, Too,” as the event’s keynote. Three informative sessions will cover topics on caring for yourself, presented by a local chaplain; legal issues and resources with Susan Mason, attorney; and an “toolkit” for caregivers with an expert panel of caregivers, physicians and a benefits counselor.

More than 15 local vendors will attend.

The event is underwritten by the North Texas Area Agency on Aging, Care Improvement Plus, and Home Instead Senior Care.

For more information about the workshop or Meals-on-Wheels’ services, call 817-558-2840 or visit www.servingthechildrenofyesterday.org.

Veterans Day events planned

Several Veterans Day events are scheduled to take place in Cleburne and Keene on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Members of American Legion Post 50 and the American Legion Auxiliary will be on hand at Cleburne High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday to distribute poppies and share the poppy story. The poppy story involves World War I veterans who recalled red flowers lining battlefields in France and Flanders and came to associate them with a symbol of blood spilled on battlefields and as a symbol of hope and renewal, ALA Unit 50 President Sandi Arnold said earlier this year.

The CHS event, open to the public, will also include a patriotic concert.

A Veterans Day program including veterans, several speakers and other events is scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday at American Legion Post 50 at 313 W. Chambers St. in Cleburne.

A second Veterans Day event takes place at 2 p.m. in Callicot Park across the street from Southwestern Adventist University in Keene.
