Problems with A/C force office closures

Residents visiting the Johnson County Tax Office in Cleburne over the past week and a half may have arrived to find the office closed. Problems with the air conditioners forced the office to close early on several days, said Scott Porter, county tax collector.

Repairs have been under way since the air conditioner went out, he said. They are now waiting for representatives of the company supplying the new unit to arrive and finalize the repairs, Porter said. The problem should be corrected within the next two days or so, he said.

Fans have been used to keep the office open part of the day, Porter said. Last week’s cooler temperatures allowed the office to remain open the whole day up through Thursday, he said.

“Once temperatures reach 86 degrees inside the building we have to shut down,” Porter said. “The Texas Department of Transportation requires us to shut the state computers down at that time, and the county requires us to do the same with the county computers.”

Porter apologized for the inconvenience.

Residents may visit the county’s other two tax offices in Burleson and Alvarado he said.

The Burleson office is located in the Burleson Subcourthouse at 247 Elk Drive. The phone number is 817-295-6641. The Alvarado office is in the Alvarado Subcourthouse at 118 S. Friou St. The phone number for that office is 817-783-5770.

Both offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.
