New reporter joins T-R sports department

A new face has joined the Times-Review staff. Zack Cunningham began working as a sports reporter last week.

He fills the position vacated by Jerrad Lindenmuth, who left in July to take a sports editor’s position in Taylor.

“I’ve always been a sports nerd, but now I can use that quirkiness for keeping stats and that passion for local sports here,” Cunningham said. “And the greatest thing is that it’s my job.”

Cunningham graduated from Abilene Christian University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in journalism, a week and a half before joining the staff. He is a 2004 graduate of Dripping Springs High School.

“I love the small-town atmosphere and how everyone for the most part feels some connection to the sport,” Cunningham said. “I’ve met a lot of very nice, down-to-earth people here already. I feel welcomed and comfortable in this new setting already, even though I haven’t been here very long at all.”

He spent his first week covering volleyball for Johnson County and said he is excited about covering his first football game Friday when Grandview plays Fort Worth Castleberry.

“Zack’s only been here a week and a half, but he’s already showing great determination and skills,” said Dale Gosser, managing editor. “I have no doubt he will fit in perfect in Cleburne and will do a great job covering sports for us.”

Sports editor Matt Tasler said he is pleased with Cunningham’s work.

“It is a relief to have someone else to help out in the sports department,” Tasler said. “Zack has done a great job covering volleyball. I can’t wait to see how he covers Texas high school football.”
